Let's talk photography props...AND A GIVEAWAY!

I assisted my friend the other day with a newborn session. She is always my sidekick when I do mine. It was only fair that I pay her back with all the help she gives to me. She asked me to bring a flower headband to the session to use as a prop. I must admit I am kind of against the whole 'huge flower on top of a baby's head' trend. I like to keep the newborn pictures simple. So...I made a headband with a ginormous flower and then a few crocheted headbands that were smaller, as well. I was surprised that I really liked the way the images turned out! It actually got me thinking about all the props I should start collecting. I do use fun baskets occasionally...but I would LOVE to expand my basket of props. Especially FUN hats! So...I would love to hear what your favorites are! Please leave a comment with your favorite prop and where you buy from! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Etsy! I love buying from moms with talent! Please list your favorite sellers. This will be great information for us all to find props and also great advertisement for those selling these types of things! So...if you know someone who makes darling hats, cocoons, or any other photography prop...let us know who they are!

At the end of the week...(Friday-ish) I will randomly select a winner from the list of comments and send you 3 custom newborn headbands (Made by me) as shown in the picture above! (You can choose from the available colors...) You do not need to be a photographer to leave a comment! Everyone is welcome to join in!
So...let us know your favorite props and sellers!
If you don't have any ideas for props or sellers...you can still leave a comment letting us all know what you like to see in newborn photography...

One of my favorite props is an old trunk. I really don't have a specific seller because I picked my up at a garage sale.

You do know you could have told me that you are a non-flower-on-the-newborn-head kind of a girl. We can still be friends and everything! :)

Just teasing, I know you really were leaving the shoot entirely up to me. THanks for having faith in me.

I agree that some cute hats would be such fun...and the branch. After the plethora of practice we'll have with my little guy I'm sure we will get that one down.

Baby "R" looks fantastic! Her skin looks beautiful. You can't tell at all how jaundice she really is. Great job as usual.

Thanks for helping me out with the shoot. You are the best.

Love the headband! The size is perfect. I don't care for the super huge ones where the flower is actually bigger than the baby's head!
I love this cutie little nest type thing. I'm a crocheter and my next project will be to learn how to make one of my own. I've been working on cocoons and I'm hoping to have one listed on etsy soon.
Here is the nest. She's got other cute stuff in her shop, too.

I'm excited to read through all the comments, because I have an almost 6 month old, and I need to know where I can get some cute stuff!

I am a little biased because I have one, but I love Valerie's hats (2peas)!! She made one that was perfect for a boy, but was still babyish, but not girlie.

Farrah has really cute, natural cocoons that I like. (though I don't have one yet)

And I don't know if JDexter has her shop yet, but I have one of her cocoons in bright colors. I love it!! get lots of compliments on it too.

And I recently discovered this one

I am just a beginner and I love looking at pics that are posted in the cocoons. I especially like the very "loose" ones, whatever they may be called. Thanks for the give-a-way!

I don't have a favorite vendor, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE hats on babies. I made one knit hat with a ribbon, that was super cute. I can't wait to use it. :)

ok, i don't know if this is even possible for a baby, but I like the family pictures where they hold a picture frame and they are inside it. Make sense? How could you do this for small babies? Might be cute?

I also like really cool antique couches and chairs. Apple crates.

One of my favorite picture of my son was him with a big set of headphones on (but he was about 2 months in the picture.) This famous picture was my inspiration - http://tinyurl.com/nn72ms

I think you could get all of these at a nice second hand store.

I did my first newborn shoot yesterday. I would have to say that my favorite prop was the material that the babies mom wants to make a blanket out of. I really like using something that is a favorite for the family. I loved the flower headband that mom wanted to use as well. Another favorite is "ruffle bums" I wish I knew where to get them though.

My favorite place is to look at salvation army/DI, Savers, those types of stores. I always take a couple diaper covers. I have a few blankets and then just an assortment of hats and headbands and such. I mostly prefer to use what the mom has and feels is important but I also like to have a few extras to help things along, especially when they don't have much.

I just found your blog a little while ago and love your pictures...and that headband :) so I would totally be thrilled to be in on the drawing.

I love the hanging from the branch pictures the most. Although everyone does them...I am still a sucker for them.

Also, any type of really pretty furniture...couches/chairs/ cabinets - anything like that.

I LOVE Anne Geddes type pictures. She has GREAT prop ideas!!!!

I found an awesome childrens iron and wood bench that I love to use, or the tutus and flower headbands with fairy wings and bubbles are always so much fun! I have no props for boys though....I need some serious ideas with that! I was thinking like a tie and paperboy hat and some small sports balls but what outside the box unique things....help!
